Climate change and its effects on Indian Economy Report says, India may lose 3-10 % of annual GDP by 2100 due to climate change. The report was released by the London-based global think tank overseas development on 8 th June 2021 , titled ‘The cost of climate change in India’ . It searched for economic costs of climate related risks in the country. The possible outcomes of the report are- Ø If the global temperature contained to 2 degree Celsius rise India will lose 2.6 % GDP annually Ø Incase if the global temperature were to rise 3 degree Celsius, the loss in GDP will magnify to 13.4% annually. Ø It could increase India’s national poverty rate by 3.5% in 2040 compared to zero warming scenario Now, the question arises- How can global warming affect GDP of India? India being mostly a tropical country will largely be affected by global warming, that may result in followings- · Extreme heat waves · Heavy rainfall · Severe flooding
